5.7. Your Better Voice

Parts One and Two of this course have given you not only the opportunity to learn an effective and safe way to produce your voice, but lots of information about how you can best use it. We hope you now have more interest in your voice, and a greater respect for it, as you realise what a precious gift it is and what it can do for you.

The technique you have learned has helped countless people in the century since it was developed by E.G. White. If you keep working on the exercises then the technique will work for you. Importantly, you’ll then be using your voice without straining your throat no matter how long you have to talk. You’ll also be able to develop a range of vocal expression so that you can communicate with confidence, interest and personality. (And if you're a singer, you will be aware of equally positive changes when you sing.)

Revisited regularly, the voice exercises will keep your voice in the right condition and in the right place – in your head and not in your throat. And remember that the Hum is a friend you want to stay in touch with. You’ll find regular humming will help you ease into your Better Voice more and more smoothly, as well as keeping your head cavities clear and healthy.

We hope you are now the proud owner of a Better Voice. It will protect and enhance one of your most vital and valuable assets. Enjoy it, and all it can do for you in your work and your life.

Many people have made valuable contributions to Better Voice. First among them is Course Consultant Dr Peter Giles. Not only did he provide constant support and encouragement, but knowledge generously shared from his wide experience of teaching White’s Technique and a lifetime’s study of the human voice improved the course immeasurably.

My ever-cheerful colleague John Tyte provided excellent editorial and technical assistance, and together with Mo Palios contributed many ideas that enhanced the course. Our talented web developer Max Shepley, the creative lead for Sunrise Web Design Ltd. was crucial to the project.

A big thank you is due to all those who appear in or otherwise contributed to the audiovisual material. Simon Casciano, Dee Mardi, Peter Giles, Helen Hearn, Rich Farrell, Holly Watkins, Ruth Hoskins, Victoria Paterson: your patience and good humour throughout the recording and photo sessions is greatly appreciated.
