Voice Tips

  • Your voice is a barometer of your general health. If you’re feeling low your voice won’t be up to strength either. Trying forcefully to increase the volume when you’re not at your best will only cause damage.

  • Always keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Your body’s thirst mechanism is not very accurate, so you can often need liquid even when you’re not thirsty. The mucous membranes in your throat, nose and sinus passages need to be nicely moist for your voice to be produced easily.

  • If you like playing loud music in your car, don’t sing along too enthusiastically. The lack of any acoustic in that small space encourages you to force your voice to try to get a good sound.

  • Avoid noisy pubs and clubs where you have to shout to make yourself heard. You’ll regret it in the morning!
